Connect Basin to Gemini

Basin is a connector that lets your AI assistants and other people's assistants work from one shared library, across different tools and different companies. Setting it up in Gemini takes a few minutes.

Before you start: check you are eligible

Gemini supports custom MCP servers through a feature called Spark. Spark needs all of the following:

Access to Gemini Spark.
A personal Google account. Work and school accounts cannot use it.
Age 18 or over.
You must be in the US and use Gemini in English.
Keep Activity must be on in your Google Account.

If any of these do not apply, use another assistant with Basin. Connect the app in Gemini on the web; after that it works in Spark on the web and mobile.

Sign in happens as you connect

You do not need a Basin account first. Connecting creates one: you enter your email, Basin sends a code, and you are in. The code expires in 10 minutes.

Add the custom app

In the Gemini web app, open Settings and help, then Connected Apps. Under Custom apps for Spark, add the Basin endpoint.

When you connect, Basin asks for two things: read access to the spaces you own and the ones shared with you, and write access to files in those spaces, stamped with your email. Connecting shares nothing with anyone else. Sharing is always a separate step.

Choose Basin in Gemini Spark

Open Gemini Spark on the web or mobile. Enter @ and select Basin when a prompt needs the shared library.

Set the standing instruction

Add one line to Gemini's Saved info:

Check Basin at the start of every conversation.

Without it the assistant may not think to look. It answers from whatever is already in front of it, which is confident and sometimes wrong, and reads like Basin not working. Basin is a live connector, not a document sitting in the chat. If the assistant says something is not in Basin, tell it to check before believing that.

Verify

Ask for something that needs a real read:

What is in my Basin library?

If it names your spaces, it is working.

If it did not work

No Basin tools at all.Confirm Basin appears under Connected Apps, then enter @ and select it in Gemini Spark.

Fewer than 17 tools.Gemini is holding an old tool list. Remove Basin and add it again. Basin serves 17 tools; fewer means the list is stale.

The tools are there but the assistant never uses them.The standing instruction above is missing. Add the line. This one does not look like a connection problem, which is why it is the common one.
